    It does happen in Anime and sometimes games. Like look at Attack on Titans or Berserk or other anime where they kill off characters we met in episode 1. Unlike our games and Anime, VR games is a different matter. They are immersive so ppl would feel the loss more. Killing Leon would mean the players failed yet again, so the blame wouldn't just be the company but the players as well. Like 'oh these players did not come help during the event. Leon died because they weren't helping.' Sure, there would be some backlash but what are they gonna do? Not play the best game in the world? Leave the other characters? The company will be fine even after killing Leon.
