Lumberjack
Summary
At the pinnacle of the colossal Demon God Tree, it is said that any wish can be granted. To conquer its perilous heights, opportunistic explorers bring along disposable slave pathfinders known as “Lumberjacks”—cannon fodder forced to brave lethal hazards in their masters’ place. For a Lumberjack, there is only one path to freedom: survive one hundred ascents. Having miraculously endured ninety-nine grueling expeditions soaked in blood and betrayal, Jack stands on the brink of liberation. With his hard-earned freedom finally within reach, the young survivor steps into the deadly canopy for his hundredth and final climb—a journey where unseen horrors, greedy companions, and the secrets of the ancient tree threaten to claim his life one last time.

How ironic the author puts in the story about not wanting to follow cliches, but then their story is all the same new cliches.
